On Monday, January 26, the Auburn School Board of Directors will recognize Dick Scobee Elementary School fourth grader, Joel Murphy, for being an excellent student. Joel is the best when it comes to self-improvement, honesty, and integrity for his work. “Academically-speaking, Joel takes responsibility to make change when and where needed. When Joel encounters a concept that poses a challenge, he takes it upon himself to put in the extra effort to understand. There are a number of cases in which he has asked me if it would be alright if he took a project home simply to perfect it - even if it was completed to my standards,” says Joel’s classroom teacher, Mr. Rick Mazzaferro. Joel is a team player and gets along with everyone. He enjoys a long list of activities such as: playing cards, video games, drawing, playing drums, playing the recorder, camping, riding bikes, hiking, going to the snow, playing with dogs, eating teriyaki, gymnastics, hockey, monster trucks, cooking, playing the flute and listening to funny rap.
