Ken Perman to be Recognized by
Auburn School Board of Directors

On Monday, January 26, the Auburn School Board of Directors will be recognizing Ken Perman, Mt. Baker Middle School physical education teacher, for his excellent career in public education.  In 1987, Mr. Perman graduated from Walla Walla College with a degree in physical education and history.  After completed his continuing certificate in July 1988, he substitute taught for Auburn School District.  In September of 1988, he was employed by Auburn School District as an elementary P.E. specialist at Dick Scobee, Hazelwood, and Lea Hill Elementary Schools.  In 1993-94, Mr. Perman transferred to Olympic Junior High to teach reading, health, and physical education.  In 1994, he helped open the district’s new middle school, Mt. Baker. Mr. Perman totally enjoys his career at the middle school level.  I love being around middle school kids; they teach me so many things.  I’ve learned to laugh more and criticize less.  I could never imagine being happy doing anything else,” said Mr. Perman.  I enjoy the interaction and the senses of humor that I encounter every day with my students.”  Mark Boynton, Mt. Baker principal, extols Mr. Perman’s qualities as an educator.  “As a teacher, Mr. Perman possesses the entire “package.”   He is hard working, extremely professional, student-centered and concerned about the welfare of the entire staff.  Every lesson is well planned and presented.  On the building level, he has coached numerous sports and has held the position of building athletic director.  Mr. Perman also displays the ability to express his views and opinions about the students and the building program in a manner that benefits everyone.  He holds such a high level of respect amongst his peers that when he speaks, they listen intently to his ideas and suggestions.”  Mr. Perman has been married for 34 years to his wife, Kay, who is an elementary counselor in the Kent School District.  They have raised two children who graduated from Auburn School District and went on to graduate from college.
