NEWS RELEASE
Rainier Middle School Students Stitch
Giving Into the Fabric of Their Lives

Rainier Middle School students in Katherine Washburn’s sixth grade language arts, reading, and social studies classes made a book come alive in their lives.  After reading the book, The Quilt Maker’s Gift, the classes participated in a variety of activities related to the book.  The Quilt Maker’s Gift teaches the gift of generosity and the joy that comes out of giving.  As the students sought to do just what the book had encouraged them to do, they came up with the idea of making their own class quilts.  Each student created a beautiful piece of art that either represented the joy of giving, the emotions that one has after giving, or an encouraging picture to make someone else’s day a bit brighter.  The quilts are now stitched together and as a class, they are being donated to the community.
