Olympic Middle School's Students are
Committed to Service
The Olympic Middle School service organization, the Builders Club, has been very active during the 2005-06 school year. During September, the club organized a team to participate in the American Heart Association and Children’s Hospital HeartWalk. The team raised $1,600 and earned an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) to be installed in their school to save lives. The Builders Club students coordinated with the Auburn High School service organization, the Key Club, and collected bags full of clothing, toys, and school supplies for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The students also sponsored a UNICEF drive which raised $200 – half of which was donated to Katrina victims and half to help children internationally. During December, Builders Club members were finalizing the emergency kit collection for the school. Students were bringing in granola power powers, packaged fruit snacks, and individual juice drinks to be stored in the school’s emergency container. The members also made signs to label the yard lines on the school’s football field for classes to be able to identify their assigned spot for emergency drills.
Olympic Middle School Builders Club’s current project is to raise school-wide awareness of recycling. The club received information and materials from the City of Auburn and members are making posters for each classroom and the school’s office areas to promote and increase recycling efforts within the school.
