NEWS RELEASE
Auburn School District's Board of Directors
Honors Fifth Grader Dominique Ecklund
The Auburn School District Board of Directors will recognize Dominique Ecklund, a fifth grader at Evergreen Heights Elementary School, for being an outstanding student on Monday, January 22, at 7 p.m. in the board room at the James P. Fugate Administration Building.
Dominique Ecklund, “Dom” for short, is an all-star in many ways. Last summer he proved it. As a member of the Auburn 9-10 All-Star baseball team, Dom helped his team win the state baseball championship. He dedicated countless hours of practice to perfect his skills, which paid off as he faced some of the best hitters in the state on the pitcher’s mound. This school year Dom hopes to use his athletic ability on the basketball court as well.
The characteristics Dom has developed over the years as an athlete—such as a good sport, disciplined, a hard worker, a team player and competitive—have also transferred into his academic pursuits. Dom is a high achiever who works hard for his success in the classroom. He is both a strong and independent student who faces all challenges head on. His determination is especially evident in his success in math. He also has great potential as a future leader, as Dom seems to master one objective after another with pride and humility. One particular goal Dom has set for himself is in reading. He never settles for mediocrity and aims to continue to read better and better. After he accomplishes one goal, he determines to set another goal in order to achieve even more.
Ms. Erickson, Dom’s fifth grade teacher, believes Dom will always strive to be the best he can be. “This young man has what it takes to go far in life.” Dom’s principal, Ms. Gayman, also sees Dom’s bright future. “Dom is a leader and a role model within our school. He leads by example, demonstrating our school motto, ‘Make Your Choice the Best and Help the Rest,’ on a daily basis. He encourages his classmates to make good choices; he excels in all academic areas; and he is well thought of by his peers and teachers.”
Dom is an outstanding student and the Auburn School District Board of Directors congratulates Dom for his willingness to stretch the limits and reach his fullest potential.
