NEWS RELEASE
Alpac Elementary School Wins National Education Association Student Achievement Grant

James Main, PE instructor at Alpac Elementary School, was awarded a National Education Association (NEA) Student Achievement Grant to improve health and wellness among Alpac elementary students.

Mr. Main will introduce heart rate monitors into the physical education curriculum in order to provide students visual and accurate data to grasp the correlation between exercise and health and well-being. Using heart rate monitors, students will be able to gauge their levels of exertion and strive to increase their fitness levels. They will be increasingly focused on the activity and the betterment of their personal level of fitness.

The wall-mounted heart rate monitors will be used during physical education activities to collect heart rate data. The heart rate monitors will be used especially at the beginning and end of every activity in order to show students how exercise affects body function.
