Sixth Grader Vies for Top Honors at
2006 US Pok
émon TCG National Championships

On July 1-2, Cascade Middle School student, Zane Nelson, competed in the 2006 U.S. Pokémon TCG National Championships in Columbus, Ohio. Over 537 competitors vied for top honors in their respective age brackets: 10 and under; 11 to 14; and 15 and over.

Zane and 130 other 11- to 14-year-olds battled it out in card games, channeling skill, strategy and creativity to capture the coveted prize—advancing to the 2006 Pokémon TCG World Championships in Anaheim, California, on August 18-20.

Zane finished in fifth place, advancing to the World Championships. He won a trip for two to Anaheim to compete, as well as a $750 scholarship and “a lot of new playing cards,” according to his mom, Niki Nelson.
