NEWS RELEASE
Auburn School District and the City of Auburn Receive
$12,000 to Install Flashing Beacons in Two Elementary School Zones

Auburn School District and the City of Auburn have received a $12,000.00 grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission to install flashing beacons on Lakeland Hills Way near Lakeland Hills Elementary School and on 10th Street SE near Terminal Park Elementary School. The flashing beacons will replace existing signage that reads, “20 MPH When Children Are Present” with signage stating, “20 MPH When Flashing or When Children Are Present.”

The flashing beacons are designed to notify drivers when they are entering a school zone with a reduced speed limit, providing an additional safety measure that will benefit school children in Auburn. The beacons are scheduled to be installed before the start of the 2007-08 school year in the two elementary school zones.
