Auburn School District Board of Directors Recognize
Ramon Johnson with Directors' Gold Star Award

On Monday, June 13, the Auburn School District Board of Directors recognized Ramon Johnson with the Directors’ Gold Star Award for his volunteerism. Mr. Johnson has been volunteering at Gildo Rey Elementary for two and a half years. His volunteering started after he began coming to the school to have lunch with his children, Spencer and Brooke. Mr. Johnson works swing shift and found it to be a good way to visit with his children. “He joined his son for recess and rolled up his sleeves and helped organize students into productive games such as soccer,” said Gildo Rey Elementary School principal, Robin Logan. Mr. Johnson enjoyed it so much that he began helping at multiple recesses. He ran the Gildo Rey spring recess Olympics. “Since Mr. Johnson has been at Gildo Rey, he has helped in a plethora of ways. He always has a willing heart and open hands. He is a wonderful role model for our students,” said Ms. Logan. Asked why he thinks volunteering in the school is important, Mr. Johnson said, “I feel that my volunteering frees up the teacher and allows me to interact with the students. I have really enjoyed volunteering and have missed only eight days during this school year.” Mr. Johnson’s wife, Brenda, also volunteers.
