Auburn School District Recipient of
Washington Traffic Safety Commission Grant

The Washington Traffic Safety Commission awarded the City of Auburn a $15,000 grant to install flashing beacons in three elementary school zones. The flashing beacons will replace existing signage on East Main Street near Washington Elementary, on M Street SE near Gildo Rey Elementary, and on 12th Street SE near Terminal Park Elementary.

The flashing beacons are designed to notify drivers when they are entering a school zone, and to provide an additional safety measure that will benefit school children, especially walkers and cyclists, in Auburn. The beacons are scheduled to be installed in the three elementary school zones in September 2006.
