Auburn School District's Board of
Directors Honors
Fifth Grader Holly Lane
The Auburn School District Board of Directors will recognize Holly Lane, a fifth grader at Lake View Elementary School, for being an outstanding student on Monday, June 11, at 7 p.m. in the board room at the James P. Fugate Administration Building.
“Holly is a very hard-working student,” remarks Holly’s teacher Alesha Rowe. “She far exceeds my classroom expectations.” Holly Lane, a fifth grader at Lake View Elementary School, requires and expects a lot of herself. According to Ms. Rowe, Holly takes her class work and homework very seriously, always completing assignments on time and at an “A” level. She has not had a late paper this year.
Whenever Holly needs help or isn’t quite sure about a problem, she immediately searches out resources to help her find the correct answer. “She uses the Internet, people—like me—or whatever else will help her find the answer,” remarks Ms. Rowe. Holly is a curious student. She is intrigued by new concepts and ideas, and she enjoys supplementing her classroom learning with research and studying on her own time.
Holly is a phenomenal reader. As a fifth grader, she’s already testing at a twelfth grade level in the STAR reading program. Holly enjoys reading just about anything—including fiction and non-fiction works. “Holly is a voracious reader,” says Ms. Rowe. “Just as she completes one book she’s onto the next.”
Holly is not only studious and bright, but she is also a supportive and encouraging friend and peer to her fellow students. She is very helpful with other students and frequently assists others with their class work. “Everyone likes Holly,” says Ms. Rowe. “She is a big helper to the kids and to me. She is always willing to do jobs around the class and at school.” Holly volunteers in the library as one of the Lake View library technology helpers. She helps maintain an orderly and clean library by shelving books, cleaning computers and assisting the librarian with other tasks.
Outside of class, Holly is a horse lover. She plans to attend two to three horse camps this summer. Throughout the year she enjoys taking riding lessons. This year Holly also played volleyball and basketball on the Lake View teams. “Holly is just one of those students who is gifted in many areas,” remarks Ms. Rowe. “I am lucky to have her in my classroom.”
