Auburn School District Jewelry Students
Win Top Honors at Annual Competition

Seven Auburn School District jewelry students submitted their favorite works of art of either jewelry or sculpture to the 2007 Passing the Torch: Washington Statewide High School Jewelry and Metals Exhibition at the Bellevue Arts Museum. The exhibit is on display from May 5-June 3.

Each participating school is allowed to submit five pieces total into the contest. Sixty-eight students from 18 schools competed this year to determine the state’s best high school metal smith. Six awards were presented in the jewelry category, and six in the sculpture category. All five students from Auburn Riverside High School who submitted pieces won top honors including:

• Devan Terpening, first place, jewelry (star necklace spins in six different ways)
• Chelsea Wood, second place, jewelry (belt buckle opens to reveal a cicada locket brooch)
• Whitney Wayman, third place, sculpture (a colorful cupcake)
• Cariane Stafford, honorable mention, sculpture (a box that holds a deck of cards)
• Nikki Judge, honorable mention, jewelry (necklace with moving dolphins, waves and fish)

Auburn Senior High School jewelry students also earned top honors:

• Kira Eggleston, honorable mention, jewelry (ring with black stone that opens into a locket)
• Kelly Jack, honorable mention, sculpture (pastel colored Rubik’s Cube)
