NEWS RELEASE
Auburn School Board of Directors to Recognize
Cascade Middle School Sixth Grader, Brittni Hayes

On Monday, March 24, Brittni Hayes, Cascade Middle School sixth grader, will be recognized by the Auburn School Board for her outstanding commitment to school excellence and her positive personal contributions.  Brittni is a great student who maintains a 4.0 GPA.  As well as being a fine scholar, she is extremely thoughtful and generous toward others.  Although she earned a VIP award that allows her to enter the cafeteria ahead of others, she chooses to let others enter first.  Her volunteer work has been extensive.  She worked at Lake View Elementary as a helper in the library and still returns there regularly to volunteer in third grade classrooms.  In the her school’s service club, the Builder’s Club, she is a key member participating in the following activities: a food drive for Pierce County Humane Society; selling food and pop at dances to raise money for Katie West; and volunteering at booths during conferences to register parents for absentee voting and handing out informational flyers.  As a Builder’s Club member, Brittni has worked at the food bank regularly and helped with the all-school food drive which brought in over 7,000 food items.  She has visited Parkside Retirement Home, gathered gifts for Children’s Hospital, and helped weed and plant flowers at Cascade.  Outside of school, Brittni regularly patrols the neighborhood picking up litter and hopes to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.  Brittni is an avid reader and writer.  She is currently working on submitting articles to magazines for publication.  When she was in elementary school, she participated in the Global Reading Challenge.  This summer, Brittni will be traveling to the United Kingdom with People to People Student Ambassadors to learn more about their culture and to directly serve as an ambassador for us.    I have never had a sixth grader turn in the quality and deep work she consistently produces.  We all feel it is a privilege to teach her and in many ways she inspires us to do our job even better,” says Sandra Luettgen, Brittni’s classroom teacher and Builder’s Club advisor.
