NEWS RELEASE
Community Member, Deanna Sader, to be Recognized with
Gold Star Volunteer Award by Auburn School Board

On Monday, March 24, the Auburn School District Board of Directors will initiate their Gold Star Volunteer Recognition Program by honoring community member, Deanna Sader for her outstanding service to Auburn students.  Mrs. Sader is the very involved parent of two sons - one son attends Ilalko Elementary and another attends preschool.  Since she became a parent at Ilalko four years ago, Mrs. Sader has been an incredible leader.  She has been instrumental in leading the school’s PTA in providing many opportunities for students such as the Ilalko Carnival, Fall Family Fun Night, Holiday Shop, and Dr. Seuss’ birthday celebration, Read Across America.  As the school’s PTA president for the past two years, she has provided the leadership and effort to develop a King County Youth Sports Facility grant valued at $22,757 to purchase new age-appropriate playground equipment to expand the playground use by all students attending Ilalko.  She also led the PTA in raising the required matching funds of $11,378 to be eligible for the grant.  Last August, Mrs. Sader convinced IKEA, the popular home furnishing store, to gift the school with 30 bookshelves, valued at approximately $2,000. The bookshelves were given to support two reading projects, RICH Reading (grades K-2) and Accelerated Reader (grades 3-5).

The Ilalko PTA started these two reading programs and continues to actively support them.  The bookshelves were used in all classrooms to house books for student use.  This past summer, Mrs. Sader volunteered to chair the Auburn Citizens for Schools inaugural fundraising event, “A Night in Venice.”  The event was an incredible fund-raising and public relations event with over 400 community members attending.  The evening was a great success because of Mrs. Sader’s excellent event planning skills, important knowledge about developing business relationships, and gracious leadership style.  Most recently, she coordinated the fundraising raffle at the Auburn Citizens for Schools’ Kick-Off event held in January.  Mrs. Sader is inimitable in her envisioning and implementing of successful efforts whether they are school events, community fundraisers, or development work.  For one community volunteer to contribute so much for Auburn students makes Deanna Sader most deserving of this first-time recognition award.
