Auburn School Board of Directors to Recognize
Kathleen Crossler, Hazelwood Elementary School Kitchen Manager
On Monday, March 24, the Auburn School District Board of Directors will recognize Kathleen Crossler, Hazelwood Elementary School kitchen manager. Mrs. Crossler grew up in Enumclaw and raised her family in Auburn. In 1978, she wanted a job that would allow her to have important quality time with her children so she began working for Auburn School District as a substitute kitchen staff. In 1979, she was hired in a permanent position at Gildo Rey Elementary School. In 1986, she became the kitchen manager at Lea Hill Elementary School . “I had filled in for a manager and that experience gave me confidence to step into the responsibility. My style of managing is teamwork. The staff does not have to have my style. I value the differences and it all comes together.” Mrs. Crossler’s supervisor, Nancy Moosburner, describes her as a “very dependable manager who is most cooperative and always willing to try new things.” In 1997, Mrs. Crossler transferred to Hazelwood Elementary School as the kitchen manager. “I love the children. They are so sweet and so much fun to be around. I really value and respect children and it’s just a joy to be with them. Also my supervisors are very supportive, “ said Mrs. Crossler. Mrs. Crossler has two grown daughters and five grandchildren. “I encourage my daughters to look at careers that really accommodate quality parenting such as education,” said Mrs. Crossler.
