NEWS RELEASE
Auburn School Board of Directors to Recognize
Washington Elementary School Librarian, Lisa Gallinatti

On March 22, the Auburn School Board of Directors will recognize Lisa Gallinatti, Washington Elementary School librarian, for being an outstanding educator.  Ms. Gallinatti has recently earned her National Board Teacher Certification.  After graduating from Tahoma High School, Ms. Gallinatti attended Washington State University where she graduated in 1990 with a bachelors degree and certification in elementary education and reading, grades K-8.  In 1991, she was hired by Auburn School District as a third grade teacher at Washington Elementary School.  After three years of teaching third grade, Ms. Gallinatti became the school librarian.  At this time, she started her learning service endorsement and she also earned her masters from City University in education technology.

In 2000, she achieved her learning services endorsement for libraries from the University of Washington.  In 2002, she applied to the National Certification process during which time she was awarded a Washington Mutual and Microsoft scholarship of $1,800 to pursue the National Certification.  She completed her work in April, 2003; took her exams in June, 2003; and was notified this November that she had successfully completed the rigorous process and had become Nationally Certified.  Ms. Gallinatti’s national certification is in Early Childhood Through Young Adult/Library Media. (ECYA/LM).  As well as serving as Washington Elementary School’s librarian, she is in her fourth year as a co-coach of girls’ basketball.  She is also her school’s Global Reading Challenge advisor and student-of-the-month leadership co-facilitator.  Ms. Gallinatti describes her enthusiasm for her profession “I try to make the library the students’.  I try to make them life-long readers and to realize the power of the library and how it can facilitate learning in all areas of their lives, both in academics and personally.  There’s always one child that you recommend a book to and they come back to you and want another because they just loved that book.”  Washington Elementary School principal, James Smith, observes about Ms. Gallinatti, “She is a very conscientious, hard working teacher.  Her spirit and dedication for the sake of the students at Washington Elementary is outstanding and she truly makes a difference for each of them.  She is a great school librarian, school technology specialist, basketball coach, and Global Reading Challenge coach.  I am proud of Lisa and of her exemplary professionalism as an educator.”
