IT Director Earns Vocational Teaching Certification

Neil Vien, director of information technology for Auburn School District, has recently earned his vocational teaching certificate.  As the top administrator for the district’s Information Technology department, the earning of teaching credentials was definitely an extra effort.

“I was prompted to attain the certification because the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) has changed certification rules and it was necessary for me to be vocationally certificated to continue the student internship program that we have been operating in the Auburn School District for the past 16 years.  This program has historically given students a great start in the technology industry,” said Mr. Vien.

Since the inception of the program in 1988, approximately 64 high school students have participated in the Auburn School District student internship program.  The majority of these students have used the technology skills gained in the program for future technology-based employment and careers.
