Parent Workshop "Seamless Transitions: Gearing Up
Your Child for the Community and the Future" to be held
Thursday, April 1, 2005
Dr. Karen Shu, Auburn High School Transition teacher, will present a workshop for parents of high school students with special needs, Seamless Transitions: Gearing Up Your Child for the Community and the Future, on Thursday, April 1 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Auburn High School teachers’ lounge. The Auburn School District Transition program provides work-based learning opportunities for students with disabilities. The Transition instructors work with the local businesses in the community to find effective employment opportunities for students.
Dr. Shu is a national and international speaker and consultant with 25 years of experience in special education. Her presentation will encourage parents to view their students in terms of strengths, hopes, fears, plans, and future placement. She will be discussing the range of vocational and residential options that are available and will give a practical framework which will help parents and teachers decide which skills will prepare people with disabilities for the community and the future.
Dinner will be catered by students. For more information, contact Jill Barett at (253) 931-4880.
