NEWS RELEASE
Auburn School Board of Directors to Recognize
Jan Schneider, Head Nurse for Auburn School District

On Monday, March 28, the Auburn School District Board of Directors will recognize Jan Schneider, head nurse for Auburn School District, for her outstanding service to maintaining students’ health. She earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing and school nurse certification at Pacific Lutheran University. She was a school nurse in the Spokane School District for two years after graduating and was a school nurse in the Pullman School District for one year while her husband, Eric, finished veterinary school. She stayed home while her children were young, but to keep up her nursing skills, she worked evenings once or twice a week at Auburn Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Schneider has been a school nurse in the Auburn School District for 16 years and head nurse for 14 years.

“I love school nursing as every day brings surprises. I enjoy health counseling with students and working with great staff at the various schools. We have more medically fragile students than ever and monitoring their care in the school setting is a challenge. As a school nurse, I try to promote this philosophy: "You can't educate a child who isn't healthy, and you can't keep children healthy who aren't educated." “Jan Schneider is an outstanding professional. Her commitment to healthy kids is always her first priority and is reflected in all she does. She does her job with “heart” and students come away from the health room with more then band aides - they also know they are genuinely cared for,” says Dr. Marilyn Holm, executive director of student support services. This summer, Mrs. Schneider’s entire family will be traveling to London for one of three daughters’ graduation from the University of London Medical School and Royal Veterinary College.
