Auburn School District Teachers
Awarded OSPI Scholarships

Lisa Horn and Diane Schiesz, Gildo Rey Elementary School teachers, both received $1,250 scholarships from OSPI to pursue National Board Certification. Only fifteen scholarships were awarded.

The program is optional and requires teachers to create a portfolio and take an essay test to demonstrate that they have met the national standards for teaching. Once a teacher passes the rigorous exam (only about half of the teachers pass the first time), the state rewards teachers National Board Certification, which includes a $3,000 stipend annually. Additionally, teachers with certification can obtain a teaching certificate in any state.
