NEWS RELEASE
First Annual Writing Contest Prepares
Auburn Students for the WASL

On Wednesday, March 15, at 8:45 a.m., Mount Baker Middle School will announce the winners of its first annual seventh-grade writing contest, sponsored by NW Cuts N’ Stuff, a new King County-based publication.

The competition—opened only to seventh graders—fine-tunes students’ writing skills for their upcoming reading and writing WASL tests. Students also vie for the cash prizes: $50 for first place and a pizza party for the winner’s Language Arts class, $30 for second place, and $20 for third place.

The writing prompt selected honored Black History Month: How has Black History Month impacted your life? Students voluntarily submitted their writing, and winners were determined based on the following criteria: grammar, syntax, organization of material, and personalization of their answer.

For additional information, please contact Assistant Principal Isaiah Johnson of Mount Baker Middle School at (253) 804-4557.
