NEWS RELEASE
Auburn School District's Board of Directors
Honors Eighth Grader Julie Chang

The Auburn School District Board of Directors will recognize Julie Chang, an eighth grader at Cascade Middle School, for being an outstanding student on Monday, March 26, at 7 p.m. in the board room at the James P. Fugate Administration Building.

Cascade eighth grader Julie Chang is truly a model student. According to four of her core teachers, Mr. Homfeldt, Mr. Webb, Mr. Taylor and Ms. Dozier, Julie epitomizes the perfect student—attentive, intuitive, helpful, thoughtful, patient, self-driven and a hard worker. In Mr. Webb’s science class, Julie is always achieving at the top of her class, completing assignments and projects on time and with precision and accuracy. According to Mr. Webb, “Julie is a positive model for citizenship and for how to respect others.”

Julie is not only highly regarded among her teachers but with her classmates as well. She is looked up to by her peers as an honors student, gifted musician, former ASB member and a Kiwanis student-of-the-month. She also participates in Cascade’s leadership cadre.

Outside of Julie’s exceptional academic success, she is a top-notch violinist. Mr. Grad, principal at Cascade, recalls one afternoon in particular when he first heard Julie and her violin. “Mr. Stafford interrupted me in a meeting with Officer McCluskey to tell me something very important. He explained that within the half hour we would have the opportunity to hear the best eighth grade violinist with her accompanist that he has ever heard. Julie and her accompanist were preparing for a contest by practicing in front of some younger students. After 15 minutes we had a brief break in our meeting. We both went to the orchestra room and listened to the most amazing music coming from this wonderful student and citizen of Cascade. It put a smile on our faces. It really put my job into perspective and made me thankful that I have the opportunity to educate children.”

Julie has made an incredibly positive impact during her time at Cascade, not just affecting her principal and classroom teachers, but the entire Cascade community. She is a student to emulate. Julie will continue to impact her surroundings wherever life takes her.
