Dick Scobee Principal Named Auburn Elks Citizen of the Year

Reva Bryant, custodian at Dick Scobee Elementary School, nominated Mr. Brown for his commitment to education and dedication to the Auburn community and beyond.

Mr. Brown frequently partners with local companies and organizations to improve his students’ education. Dick Scobee Elementary School received a Boeing Employees Credit Union grant to add aesthetically pleasing elements to the school’s front entrance due to his efforts. He also provided leadership for a partnership with Sterling Savings Bank to send the Dick Scobee third graders to Junior Achievement classes in Auburn.

Mr. Brown is on the Communities in Schools Auburn advisory board. He also is a member of his neighborhood’s homeowner’s association.

Mr. Brown is always interested in promoting the best interests of students, not just in Auburn but throughout the area. Recently he heard a local news station covering an unsubstantiated bomb threat. He quickly contacted the station to remind them of their

promise six years ago that stated they would not cover bomb threats unless they were substantiated. Mr. Brown immediately received responses from the director of the newsroom and the director of the affiliated radio station informing Mr. Brown that his correspondence prompted the company to reinstate their policy of only covering substantiated bomb threats.
