Selected
as Wal-Mart Teacher-of-the-Year
Dorothy Luke, Terminal Park Elementary School fourth grade teacher, has been selected as the 2005 Auburn Wal-Mart Teacher-of-the-Year for her exceptional instructional skills and commitment to students. Ms. Luke is an outstanding leader in using technology in the classroom. Her students, after being introduced to the basic software programs of Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher, create projects using all of these programs. Ms. Luke’s students used their PowerPoint skills to create a presentation for this year’s Uniquely Auburn event. They have also created PowerPoint shows for two governors, Gary Locke and Christine Gregoire.
On Tuesday, May 10, at 1:30 p.m., Mark Schepker, Auburn Wal-Mart manager, will present a check for $1,000 to Ms. Luke in her classroom at Terminal Park Elementary School. Ms. Luke and her school will use the funds to enrich her students’ education. Ms. Luke will be qualified for the Wal-Mart State Teacher-of-the-Year that is awarded $10,000 and, if successful at that level, she would automatically be entered into the Wal-Mart National Teacher-of-the-Year which is recognized with $25,000.
