Auburn School District Receives
Washington State Dairy Council Grant

On May 16, Auburn School District’s Child Nutrition Services department received a $5,000 grant from the Washington State Dairy Council to provide classroom nutrition education in four elementary schools.

The grant will fund a Registered Dietitian to train the schools’ kitchen managers to go into fourth grade classrooms to make health and nutrition presentations focused on good food choices and the benefits of healthy eating, with a particular emphasis on the value of calcium in one’s diet.

A unique spin of the grant is that funding includes training a group of fourth grade students who learn about the good food choices to then present the health and nutrition information to third grade classrooms in the schools.

The program will commence with the 2006-2007 school year.
