NEWS RELEASE
Auburn Mountainview High School Students
to Compete In Robotic Competition

On May 31, six teams of three from Mr. Scott’s drafting and engineering classes at Auburn Mountainview High School will be competing at the regional robotics contest at Lindbergh High School in Renton, Washington.

The competition kicks off at 9 a.m. Over 100 teams from across the region will bring their prized possessions—robots—to compete at the annual event.

Teams are charged with creating and building their own robots from raw materials like wood, metal, motors, gears, etc. Each robot is created for a specific task; for instance, one of the Auburn Mountainview teams created their robot to be able to pick up bean bags with fork lift-like shovels and then release them into a bucket via a piston located on the shovel. The team has one minute to get as many bean bags into the bucket as possible.

Teams compete head-to-head; the competition is double elimination. Sophomore Kenny Wells has learned a lot from participating in the robotic challenge: “I’ve learned that you can’t just guess or eyeball measurements,” says Kenny. “My accuracy and measurements have had to be right on.”
