NEWS RELEASE
Auburn Mountainview High School Student One of Four Finalists for the
State Board of Education Student Representative Position

On May 2, Dhavan Vengadasalam, a sophomore at Auburn Mountainview High School, interviewed for the two-year position as student representative to the State Board of Education and the Washington Association of Student Councils.

Dhavan, selected as one of four finalists for the position, underwent a challenging interview process including a 3-5 minute prepared presentation discussing a current topic in education, an individual interview, a small-group discussion, and a final question and answer period.

Dhavan is a gifted leader. Currently he is president of Auburn Mountainview’s multicultural club and lead trombone in the concert band and wind ensemble. He is also a community activist, recently participating in a community collaboration and diversity program that is establishing sister schools between neighboring school districts. He is also a volunteer for United Way of King County and Kent Food Bank.

Dhavan has won numerous academic awards including a certificate of distinction from Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth for his eighth grade math SAT score, an outstanding academic achievement award from the National Society of High School Scholars, and an all-tournament academic honors award in varsity tennis from the South Puget Sound League. Dhavan was also selected as a Senate page for the State of Washington in eighth grade.

Ultimately a student from Hazen High School was selected for the two-year position; however, Dhavan found it to be a very rewarding experience and is proud to have made it to the final four.
