Evergreen Heights Elementary School
Raises Money
for American Heart Association
On May 4, over 300 students at Evergreen Heights Elementary School grabbed a jump rope and jumped to the beat of $3,588.50—the amount of money the students raised for their annual fundraiser benefiting the American Heart Association.
This is the fourth year Evergreen Heights has participated in the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart giving campaign. The students ask friends, families and businesses to donate to the organization. In return the students jump rope for a half hour during a scheduled assembly. All proceeds are donated to the American Heart Association.
Mr. Ansotigue, PE teacher at Evergreen Heights, discusses the dangers of heart disease with the students and explains to them that physical exercise is one preventative, as well as a healthy diet.
This year fifth grader Dylan Kludsikofsky raised over $1,100—the most any child has raised in the history of the event. It is his second year in a row raising over $1,000. Dylan not only asked for donations from friends and family, but he also wrote letters to local business requesting their support.
“We want kids to know they can have healthy hearts,” remarks event coordinator and parent volunteer Jenel Kludsikofsky.
