There are a vast number of book awards. Those listed here are of interest to students and teachers and are of national or state interest to them.

American Library Association Book Awards for Young Adults

Caldecott Medal Homepage (ALA)
The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

Evergreen Young Adult Book Award
The Evergreen Young Adult Book Award is sponsored by WASHYARG, Washington Young Adult Review Group.

Michael L. Printz Award for YA's
Best book for YA's. Begun 2000.

The Newbery Medal Homepage (ALA)
The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

The Pulitzer Prize

The Sasquatch Award
Grades 4-6. Children in Washington state vote on their favorite books each year. This award is to promote the reading and writing of chapter books for the pleasure of young intermediate level readers. The children of Washington State chose the name for this award, given annually by the Washington Library Media Association.

Washington Children's Choice Picture Book Ballot
Grades K-3. Twenty favorite picture books are selected annually by children in grades K-3 in Washington State. After children vote in March, their top favorite becomes the Washington Children's Choice Picture Book of the Year. Sponsored by the Washington Library Media Association.

Young Reader's Choice Award
Grades 4-8 and 9-12. Established in 1940 to promote reading for enjoyment. Chosen by the children and young adults of Alberta, Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington, from books published 3 years previously, and nominated by librarians, teachers, students and others. In 1991, a Senior Division (grades 9-12) was added to the awards program.
