NEWS RELEASE
"United in Service and Civility Week"

Auburn School District students are implementing a “United in Service and Civility Week” from Monday through Friday, December 3-7.  The students are planning individual school activities that promote themes such as courtesy, respect, community service, honoring civil servants and military personnel and civic responsibility.  Each day of the week, there will be specific themes promoted by specific activities both in the schools and the community.  Some of the school activities will include food drives; volunteering time; clothing drives; picking up litter; assisting in park maintenance; grounds work at non-profit agencies; and thanking local police, firefighters, veterans, medics and other emergency personnel for all they do for the community.  The mayors of Auburn, Algona, and Pacific will be making official proclamations establishing December 3-7 as the “United in Service and Civility Week.”  Community-wide activities will be promoted which parallel the school-based activities.

This special week is a continuation of the Reaching Out Fair, the third annual youth safety event, which was held on Thursday, October 18.  The fair, was co-hosted by the Auburn School District and the Cities of Auburn, Algona, and Pacific, and focused upon sharing information about the community resources essential to keeping children and youth safe in contemporary American society.  “The United in Service and Civility Week will continue the reaching out and giving back to the community concept started with the Reaching Out Fair,” said Donna Foxley, Auburn School District director.  “The Cities In Schools Forum, which is comprised of city and school officials, collaboratively works to strengthen partnerships between in the schools and the community-at-large.  This special week and the Reaching Out Fair are part of that shared goal.”
