Veterans Day Activities Throughout
Auburn School District

 

Auburn schools are having a variety of activities to commemorate Veterans Day.  The following activities and assemblies are representative of Auburn School District students and staff honoring those who have served their country:


Alpac Elementary School’s second grade students will be having a Veterans Day program on Friday, November 9
in the gymnasium at 2:45 p.m.
Evergreen Heights Elementary School is having a multi-faceted Veterans Day celebration on Thursday, November 8, at 2 p.m.  The celebration will begin with an actual Veterans Day street parade participated in by the entire school and its staff, as well as Cascade Middle School band students. The school parade will include military jeeps, police cars, marching veterans, marching musicians, and students and staff dressed in red, white, and blue.  The parade will be followed by an assembly in the school gymnasium that will focus on honoring veterans with music presented by the students.  Songs such as God Bless America and Proud to be an American will be sung by students.  Joanie Aman, kindergarten teacher, and John Ansotigue, music teacher, have coordinated this special event.

Auburn High School’s leadership class is putting on an assembly on Friday, November 9, at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.  A variety of music, songs, speakers and videos will be presented around the theme of Proud to be an American.

Lea Hill Elementary School will be having a Veterans Day assembly on Friday, November 9 at 1:30 and 2:20 p.m.  Community veterans will be guests as students perform patriotic songs with the Lea Hill honor choir.  The Auburn High School Brass Quintet will be also playing.
Mt. Baker Middle School is having a Veterans Day assembly.
Pioneer Elementary School is having a Veterans Day assembly on Thursday, November 9 at 10:30 a.m.

West Auburn High School hosted a Veterans Day assembly on Monday, November 5.  Mr. Ted Huchinson, an Air Force veteran and master storyteller/singer was the guest speaker.  He has presented at WAHS several times on holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.

On Monday, November 19, Ilalko Elementary School’s fourth grade students will be presenting a musical salute, "Let Freedom Ring," to Veteran's and troops abroad.  An afternoon matinee will be performed for the Ilalko Elementary student body and then an evening performance for the general public will be performed in the Auburn Riverside High School ART at 7 p.m.  Local veterans have been invited to attend.
Dick Scobee Elementary School is having students invite a veteran familiar to them to come visit the school.

On Friday, November 9, Olympic Middle School is having a Veterans Day assembly with patriotic songs sung by the school choir and a Native American singing group at 1 p.m.  An Honor Guard from the Auburn post of the American Legion will be there to present colors and one of the school staff, Mr. Ricks, will explain to students what that means.  In between songs, students will read aloud famous patriotic quotes.  Also, all teachers are giving students paper stars on which to record information about family veterans which will be posted in the school hallways.
