NEWS RELEASE
New Online School Report Cards
Parents and community members looking for information about the performance of their schools and school districts now have access to it online. The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) is now providing this school report card data at http://www.k12.wa.us/ESEA/default.asp. This report card data is a requirement of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) signed into law last January by President Bush. This new education law, also known as the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, requires states and school districts to provide detailed data on several indicators:
Student performance on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) in reading and mathematics by performance level;
Student performance on the WASL broken down by:
the five major ethnic/racial groups
gender
disability status
English proficiency
migrant/bilingual status
Percentage of students not tested;
Number of schools and districts in federal improvement status, and
Professional qualifications of teachers in the state.
