NEWS RELEASE
Auburn School Board Acts Upon
Community Recommendations

At the special board meeting held on Thursday, November 7, the Auburn School Board of Directors began the process to place a new high school bond on the Tuesday, February 4, 2003 ballot.  The board made this decision after hearing two citizens ad hoc committees’ report on community input regarding high school overcrowding.

Committee #1 had recommended that the board place a new high school bond on the Tuesday, February 4 ballot.  Committee #2 had given short-term and long-term recommendations such as double-shifting and increased portables to solve overcrowding.  After making their recommendations to the board, the two committees then presented their recommendations at community meetings to receive public input.  The citizens committees reported this community response to the board of directors at the November 7 special board meeting.  Subsequently, the Auburn School Board of Directors decided to initiate the process to place a new high school bond issue on the Tuesday, February 4, 2003 special election ballot.  The board also directed the district to implement the short-term recommendations made by Committee #2.
