Auburn School Board to Recognize Chinook Fifth Grader
Christian Vandenberg

On Monday, November 22, the Auburn School Board of Directors will recognize Chinook Elementary School fifth grader, Christian Vandenberg, for being an outstanding example of the terrific students in Auburn School District and Chinook Elementary School. Christian is well-liked and respected by his teachers and his classmates. He is best described as a quiet leader, leading through example rather than words. Academically he excels. Christian passed all three sections of the Washington Assessment of Student Learning this past year. His fifth grade teacher, Mr. Robinson remarks that, “Christian is a very strong reader and loves to share what he is reading with the class.” Christian was a member of the 2004 Chinook Global Reading District Championship team and is a dedicated member of the 2005 team. He participates in the chess club and the volleyball team. In addition to his academic skills, Christian is also an outstanding example of a student who practices the citizenship skills that they believe in at Chinook. He has achieved near perfect attendance over the last several years and has been awarded several Lifeskill awards due to his positive interactions with adults and peers in the school. Christian can always be found doing the tasks and activities that are asked of him with out complaint. He is a tremendous example of a student who demonstrates both the character and skills that are fundamental to being successful in school and life beyond. He is most deserving of this recognition.
