Having Fun with Pizza in the Classroom
| The second graders at Washington Elementary School had two employees from the local Italian restaurant, Henry’s, visit their classroom on Wednesday, October 13, to talk about their work. This visit was initiated after reading a story, “Little Nino’s Pizza.” Megan Carver, a student in Mrs. deJong’s class invited her father, Mr. Chuck Carver, who worked at the pizza business to come and talk to the class. Mr. Carver also brought the Head Chief, Lamar Beckham, to demonstrate how he makes pizzas. He flipped the dough high in the air just as it was done in the story. Students were able to see the steps of making pizza. Additionally, students took a walking field trip to see another local pizza business, Athens. The culminating activity was the best part….eating pizza! |
