Auburn's Newest Elementary School Has Been Named

At the Monday, November 14 Auburn School Board meeting, the school directors unanimously selected the name of the district’s 13th elementary school which is scheduled to open September 2006. The new school, which is currently under construction, will be named Lakeland Hills Elementary School. The school site is located in the extensive Lakeland Hills neighborhood in south Auburn.

Last June, the Auburn School District directors invited the community to help name its new elementary school. Approximately 200 names were suggested by the community by the deadline of Thursday, October 13. The directors’ selection process was based on the Auburn School District Board Policy 9250 which delineates the school naming process: “…In selecting a name, the board will give preference to names identifying the geographic area of the community served by said facility.”
