Auburn Mountainview High School Awarded
$10,000 OSPI Navigation 101 Grant
Auburn Mountainview High School has been awarded a $10,000 Navigation 101 Grant from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) for student-led conferences.
The funding will be used to hire a coordinator who will manage Auburn Mountainview High School’s student-led conferences during the 2006-07 school year. Student-led conferences occur in the spring. It is a time when students present their culminating portfolios—a compilation of student work that reveals what a student knows and is able to do at benchmark standards, and demonstrates students’ mastery of technology skills. Culminating portfolios are one of the new statewide graduation requirements, beginning with the graduating class of 2008.
The funding will also be used to compensate staff members for curriculum development and data collection. Part-time teachers who have a Requirements of Academic Readiness (ROAR) advisory group will also be paid with the grant money. ROAR advisory groups have been formed to help students create a clear plan for completing the new high school graduation requirements. It is sometimes referred to as a five-year transition plan.
OSPI is designating a support person at the state level to assist Auburn Mountainview in its efforts to continue and enhance the student-led conferences component of the new statewide graduation requirements.
