Auburn School District Board of Directors
Selects Name for Elementary School #14
On Monday, November 13, the Auburn School District Board of Directors selected “Arthur Jacobsen Elementary” as the name for Auburn’s newest elementary school. Previously referred to as Elementary School #14, Arthur Jacobsen Elementary School is located on Lea Hill off 132nd Avenue SE, due south of Auburn Mountainview High School.
The name was selected based on the school’s geographic location. The school is being constructed on property that Arthur Jacobsen owned from 1923-1966. The property served as a family farm until Arthur Jacobsen’s son purchased the land and started the Mountain View Tree Farm in 1966.
Arthur Jacobsen was a leader in both the Auburn and Kent communities and a proponent of public education. Mr. Jacobsen was elected to a three-year term on the Hazelwood School District Board from 1934-1937. It wasn’t until 1941 that Hazelwood School District became part of the Auburn School District.
Arthur Jacobsen Elementary is scheduled to open in September 2007.
