Terminal Park
Elementary School Awarded First Book Grant
Terminal Park Elementary School was awarded a First Book grant, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Education.
Approximately 416 books from the “Back to School 2007” National Book Bank will be delivered to Terminal Park for use in Terminal Park’s Family Reading Program.
This program will provide free books to Terminal Park’s free or reduced lunch students and students who are reading at least one grade level below their own grade level. The parents and the student will sign a contract stating that in return for a free children’s book each month, they will agree to read the book as a family and create a “retelling” poster to be displayed in the school library. At the end of the school year, all participating families will be invited to attend a “Family Reading Night” program to celebrate reading as a family.
First Book is a national nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books.
