Jump-Start to College with Tech Prep
Last year, 141 Auburn School District students participating in the South King County Tech Prep program earned a total of 1,430 college credits while attending high school. These credits were earned through completion of high school courses that are articulated to a community college or technical college program. This unique program allows students a jump-start to college without ever leaving their high school. Tech Prep is a college preparatory program that prepares students with the skills and abilities needed by business and industry. Students must earn a “B” grade or better in the high school class and demonstrate mastery of the course competencies.
An additional advantage to the program is that students do not pay for the college credits earned while still in high school except for a one-time transcription fee of $15. With the average of a community college credit being $55, Auburn School District students participating in the Tech Prep program saved a combined total of $79,145 in college expenses during the 2000-2001 school year.
