NEWS RELEASE
New High School's Progress
Progress on Auburn School District's high school #4 is moving along on schedule. The new high school project began in earnest this past June. Since then, the general contractor, Absher Construction Company, has changed the landscape of the 40-acre school site. The location between 124th Southeast and 132nd Southeast near SE 290th Street, have been transformed by the excavating of soil to create new terrain that will provide the construction areas for the new building, playfields, landscape areas, and parking lots. Work on concrete footings, foundations, and building slabs is nearing completion. Masonry and steel erection work has begun. Work on the building will continue through the fall and winter with site work starting back up in the spring of 2004. The project remains on schedule to open to students in September 2005.
This past September, the Auburn School Board of Directors invited the community to suggest names for the new high school. Over 700 individuals submitted school names for the directors' consideration and a final decision will be made by the directors by December 2004. Selection of the new high school's planning principal will occur during March and April 2004.
The important process of determining the new high school's attendance area will begin in March 2004, when a committee of community members and staff commences. The committee will present its recommendations to the school board by January 2005.
