ARHS Teacher Selected as Washington State Council
for Social Studies Teacher-of-the-Year
Cheryl Moyd, Auburn Riverside High School history and psychology teacher, has been selected as the Washington State Council for Social Studies Teacher-of-the-Year. She received her award this on past Saturday , October 15, at Edmonds Woodway High School. Nola Wilson, Auburn Riverside High School assistant principal, describes Ms. Moyd as the “last person to give up on a student. She finds anyway possible to keep a student connected to…school in general. Often these students visit her long after they have graduated and consider her more of a life coach than a past teacher.” Ms. Moyd has been an instructional leader who works diligently to strengthen her and her colleagues instructional skills and strategies for success within the classroom. She has been instrumental in developing the Auburn School District’s U.S. History frameworks and aligning them with the state Grade Level Expectiations (GLEs). Ms. Wilson states, “Ms. Moyd considers it a personal responsibility to help students succeed on the WASL…” She describes Ms. Moyd as “a poster child for outstanding social studies teachers.”
