NEWS RELEASE
School Board of Directors to Recognize
Lynda Randolph, Olympic Middle School Teacher

On Monday, October 24, the Auburn School Board of Directors will recognize Lynda Randolph, Olympic Middle School eighth grade language arts teacher, for her outstanding career. In 1986, Ms. Randolph graduated from Ridgefield High School in Southwest Washington where her father was superintendent of the Ridgefield School District. In 1990, Ms. Randolph graduated from Washington State University (WSU) with a major in English and a minor in history and a teaching certificate. In 1991, she completed her student teaching at Olympic Junior High where she was hired as a full-time teacher the following spring. Ms. Randolph has taught her entire career at Olympic, teaching 7th grade and 8th grade reading, language arts, and social studies.  “Olympic is special because of the staff’s commitment to encouraging our students to be the best they can be despite obstacles and challenges. Having spent 15 years in this school, I have seen a lot of people come and go. The one constant is that Olympic is really about doing what is best for kids…in all areas, even if it means change or stretching on the staff’s part. I truly enjoy coming to work each day!” Ms. Randolph grew up in a family of teachers (both parents, a grandmother, two aunts, and two uncles). Despite her resolve not to be a teacher, while she was serving as a high school camp counselor she experienced such joy in “watching young minds explore and get excited about new ideas and experiences,” that she studied education in college. “I love…the joy of knowing that what I’m doing makes a difference in the lives of these students. I take that as a serious honor and responsibility.” Ms. Randolph is considering a masters degree in counseling. She is also considering becoming a lay pastor in her church. Ms. Randolph and her family enjoy the outdoors. She is also very involved in her church and coordinates its adult education program.
