Auburn School Board Appoints New District 5 Director

The Auburn School Board of Directors has appointed Clarissa J. Ruston to the position of Director for School Board District 5.

Ms. Ruston served on the 2004 Citizens’ Ad Hoc committee and co-chaired the Childhood Nutrition and Fitness subcommittee. Recently she completed the Leadership Institute of South Puget Sound, an adult leadership development program organized to prepare adults for future civic and business leadership positions. Currently she is the chair of a standing committee for the Washington Recreation and Park Association.

Ms. Ruston is employed by the City of Auburn and works as a Recreation Coordinator for the Parks, Arts and Recreation department. For the past 14 years she has had the opportunity to serve the greater community of Auburn by providing recreation experiences for adults and youth. Ms. Ruston believes in lifelong learning and carries two professional certifications: Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) and Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA). She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Recreation from Western Washington University.

Ms. Ruston and her husband have a daughter in fifth grade and a son in second grade at Hazelwood Elementary School. Ms. Ruston and her husband have both volunteered in their children’s classrooms and enjoy being a part of the learning that takes place in their children and other students from year to year.
