The Newbery Medal
The Newbery Medal is presented annually to the author of the most distinguished
contribution to American literature for children. First presented in
1922, the award honors 19th century British author and bookseller, John
Newbery. The award is sponsored by the Association for Library Service
to Children, a division of the American Library Association.
