School Board of Directors Recognize
April Benton
On Monday, September 24, the Auburn School District Directors will be recognizing April Benton, a junior at West Auburn High School, for her leadership in community service. During the week following the recent national tragedies, April and two classmates took the initiative to make red, white, and blue ribbons for the students and staff to wear in remembrance of those who died on Tuesday, September 11. April has taken this leadership in other commemorative events. When she attended Cascade Middle School, she helped make ribbons in remembrance of teacher, Bill Martinson, who was a victim in a tragic car accident. April is very active in leadership at her high school. She is a member of the Vocational Education Club at West Auburn as well as a classroom representative in the school's ASB. For the second year, April will be a juror on the Student Traffic Court of the Auburn School District. She is planning to join the teen version of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD). Shelli Steedman, WAHS business teacher and Voc Ed Club advisor said, “Staff at WAHS are very proud of this young lady and her interest in her community.”
