Auburn School District 2004 WASL Scores
Overall, Auburn School District continues to show improvement in student learning on the 2004 Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) in reading and mathematics.
District fourth grade student scores increased from 64% meeting standard in 2003 to 72.3% meeting standard in 2004. In fourth grade mathematics, student scores increased from 49.6% meeting standard in 2003 to 56.9% meeting standard in 2004. For the first time in three years, district fourth grade scores reflect a decline in writing with 41.7% of fourth graders meeting standard.
Seventh grade student scores in reading increased from 44.6% meeting standard in reading in 2003 to an impressive 56% meeting standard in 2004. In mathematics, student scores continued to increase from 35.1% meeting standard in 2003 to 44.8% meeting standard in 2004. Seventh grade student writing scores reflect a slight decrease from 56.6% meeting standard in 2003 to 56.7 meeting standard in 2004.
For tenth grade, reading scores slightly decreased from 60.6% meeting standard in 2003 to 60.1% meeting standard in 2004. In mathematics, scores showed an increase from 38.3% meeting standard in 2003 to 40.8% meeting standard in 2004. Writing scores decreased for the first time in five years with 55.9% meeting standard.
In science, for the first year of fifth graders taking the science WASL in 2004, 23.6% met standard. The two-year trend for eighth grade scores reflect an increase from 29.9% meeting standard in 2003 to 35.8% meeting standard in 2004. In tenth grade, the scores also increased from 25.6% meeting standard in 2003 to 29.7% meeting standard in 2004.
