NEWS RELEASE
Auburn School Board to Honor Jim Chapman as
Recipient of Gold Star Volunteer Award

On Monday, September 13, the Auburn School District Board of Directors will honor Jim Chapman, Terminal Park Elementary School volunteer, as the recipient of their Gold Star Volunteer Recognition award.  For seven years, Mr. Chapman has volunteered his time in the classroom working with “many struggling readers and students in need of an excellent role model,” says second grade teacher, Geneva Gilbraith.  “Mr. Chapman has taken training in Read Naturally.  His dependability is a reflection of his concern for children and his commitment to children’s literacy.”  Teacher on special assignment, Laurie Bulson, lauds Mr. Chapman’s commitment to coming in every week to tutor struggling readers.  “Mr. Chapman has been very generous with his time,” says Ms. Bulson.  Mr. Chapman represents so well the high quality of volunteerism that Auburn students are supported with in their education.  Ardith Scarlett, office assistant at Terminal Park, says “Even though his wife, Shirley, retired from the Auburn School District, Jim faithfully volunteered his time with our students.  Everyone looks forward to seeing Jim’s smiling face and willingness to spend time helping Terminal Park students."
