Auburn Riverside High School First Nations President
Nominated to Be a Student Ambassador to Australia
Tiffany Escalon, a senior at Auburn Riverside High School and the First Nations President, recently returned from a 2006 People to People Student Ambassador Program. Tiffany was nominated for the program by her peers and prepared for the Australian cultural experience months prior to her departure. Every Sunday, Tiffany and 40 other hand-selected Western Washington students studied the Australian culture, demystifying stereotypes and learning geography, language, history and so on.
Tiffany’s 21-day Australian adventure included travels throughout the continent to Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Cairns. Tiffany also had a host family she lived with and befriended during a segment of the trip. Tiffany will receive both high school and college credit for participating in the study abroad program. Her goal is to be nominated once again this summer in hopes of traveling to Western Europe.
The People to People program provides international educational opportunities and cultural experiences for students. The program embodies the mission set forth by its founder, Dwight D. Eisenhower—to “promote peace through understanding” between individual citizens of the world.
