Mount Baker Middle School Student Will Be
Published in Young Poets Anthology

Mount Baker eighth grader Darlena Johnson recently entered a poetry contest for young poets sponsored by Creative Communications, Inc. Out of thousands of entries, Darlena’s poem was selected to be published in the anthology, A Celebration of Young Poets. Her poem will also be considered for the “Top Ten Poet” award. Top ten poets receive prize money up to $3,000.

The purpose of the contest is to create a poetic record of the fears, hopes and dreams of today’s students. Darlena’s poem captures some of these emotions, allowing readers to catch a glimpse of what life entails for young people.
